"Comfortable retreat" yesterdayReviewed by Gillian888 Really enjoyed our stay. Was very comfortable and friendly. When you have done a long drive nothing nicer than to go next door for dinner! Bar is cosy too with an open fire. There was a quiz on our first night too which was fun. Food was good and they do a smaller portions menu too, less is more for me! We stayed for two nights and would definitely like to go back.

A wonderful stay...will visit again Review of The Boar's Head Hotel Reviewed yesterday Beautiful, fully equipped rooms, adjacent to the pub. Good food, service and atmosphere in this popular local pub. Good parking. On a sunny summer day outdoor seating area could be larger but was adequate. Stayed: June 2018, travelled with friends

They say First Impression is the best-So true" 2 days ago Reviewed by Cham24 We visited Bishops Castle over the August Bank holiday. Staying in a cottage nearby we ventured out on our bikes, so clearly needed regular refreshments, if only to replenish the worked off calories. Having cycled about 20 miles on Saturday we stopped off at The Boar's Head. It is a stylist up to date property transformed from the old. Very welcoming. I thought the family sport room was a great idea. I love sport, but not all do. So good idea. Now I am all for good first impressions which without doubt, are both very important as well as mood setting. My friend and I visited the bar for the drinks, whilst our respective wives sought a seat in the sun to rest their tired limbs. Whilst my friend homed in on a refreshing pint of cloudy Strongbow, I decided to turn my attention to the array of home made cakes that were beautifully position to the left of the bar. Warned off by my friend as he steered me towards a good selection of liquid refreshments I heard " Do you mind I have a business to run" That would be Darren the co-owner. Banter from the start, just how I like it. Anyway having sensibly settled for a local golden beer, no more about the cake, that has its day BTW. I took the drinks out the girls. They were laughing and saying "We know who would have been interested in the cakes and who the beer. Darren had taken the time and effort to pop outside to not only continue the banter, but to link it as well. Superb hosting skills. We met the other Co-Owner, Stuart, who was equally as homely, along with their superb dog Baggins, who completed the set. These first impressions sold the place to us and made us all feel so welcome. The outcome, of which, including another round of drinks, as well as a table booked for dinner the next day. Returning to the restaurant at a earlier time then our booking, we were expected and greeted and shown to our table. It was a very hot evening and as a result we decided to have a pre meal drink outside, due to the heat. We continue and ate outside, although the hosts confirmed that we could still use the table booked inside at any time. We placed our order, although if we really wanted be picky, they had run out of loaded skins, which one of our party had been looking forward to since we viewed the menu the day before. However this disappointment was born more out of appetite then having other items on the menu to choose from. Mind you running out of a second bottle of the same wine was also a set back, although not a deal breaker. It has to be said the food, both the starters and main course arrived in good time and as well as being very well presented and cooked to perfection. Particular praise should also be given for the heat of the food, which in some establishments varies. This food was first class. Not surprisingly all the ample portioned food was consumed by all. And very enjoyable to boot. The evening was rounded off with a dip into the dessert menu for two of our party, whilst my wife had a Hot Chocolate and I had a very well made Coffee and yes you guessed it, that slice of homemade carrot cake, which had had my name on it for 24 hours. Overall our experience of The Boars's Head was exceptionally. One other reviewer said that he did not agree with the "Arrive as strangers, leave as friends" . Whilst I appreciate that trip advisor is all about opinions. I can say that our party made friends here, including Baggins. Thanks to all and keep up the good work.
