Amazing place to stay Bishop's Castle is a lovely small town. Great quirky shops and warm friendly pubs. The Boar's Head has character and good value for money. Evening meals were tasty and good value. Breakfast was simply devine. Shropshire Treat” Reviewed yesterday NEW Excellent pub with good quality modern accommodation. Smart restaurant area where they serve good food coupled with a decent wine list at reasonable prices. It still maintains a traditional pub atmosphere in the bar and serves a selection well kept real ales. All the members of staff we met were polite, friendly and helpful. Would recommend the Boars Head if you are planning to visit the area. Bishops Castle is an attractive somewhat sleepy town with a few other good pubs including the Three Tuns, the oldest licensed brewery in the UK. The town sits right on the English/Welsh border in beautiful scenery on both sides of the border. Plenty of places to visit including Ludlow, Clun, Powys Castle near Welshpool and the Kerry Vale Vineyard near Bishops Castle. This is Welsh Marches territory and while many other places claim (quite rightly) to have stunning scenery there's not much to beat this area, this is up there with the best. Luckily for us it's not that far away. Nevertheless well worth visiting even if you live further afield. Some areas in the UK (the usual suspects so to speak) claim very loudly how wonderful they are. This is an area largely undiscovered by many people outside of the larger West Midland area and Mid Wales. So if you do live further afield and you are looking for somewhere less crowded that avoids shouting about itself to all and sundry, this could be the place for you. Room Tip: All rooms seem to be very similar, I would guess there is no real advantage other than some are bigg... "Overnight stay in Bishops Castle" yesterdayReviewed by akb1912 Stayed overnight 28/08/17 with husband and Coco dog in No1 Curly Tail room (which is dog friendly). Live about 40 miles away, thought as the Bank Holiday weather glorious we would drive out to explore South Shropshire. By booking directly on line with the hotel we were given complimentary wifi! The room was quirky with wooden beams and tiled floor, plenty of drawer and wardrobe space and enough room for Coco's to use her dog bed (which we had taken with us). The bedlinen and towels were spotless and of good quality. The complimentary toiletries, hot drink making facility and bottled water were a nice touch. The staff are lovely! - really welcoming, polite and cheery, nothing was too much trouble. Booked for dinner, which was plentiful and flavoursome (receive a 10% discount off food if you're staying). The cooked breakfast for an additional £6.99 (I think) was well worth the money. The hotel is brimming with 'old world charm' - exposed beams, shining brasses and an overall cosy atmosphere. We enjoyef our stay and would definitely re-visit if we're in the area again.
