“Good short stay B&B” Reviewed 4 days ago NEW The room was one of 4 in the courtyard. There is ample free parking adjacent to the room. There is a small entrance porch with exterior light and a bathroom off to the left. The other door from the porch leads into the twin bedded room. The room was a good size, well furnished, looked to have been recently decorated and was very clean. There was a TV, hospitality tray and a Roberts radio but I was unable to get decent radio reception. Similarly there was no mobile signal. (O2). The beds were very comfortable with extra bedding in the wardrobe (didn't need it), There were 2 easy chairs in the room. The bathroom was a good size with basin, WC and over bath shower. The shower had two outlets, fixed overhead and a movable head on a chromed flexible tube. The flow was quite powerful and the temperature easily adjusted. At full heat it would have been scalding take care and move away when adjusting the temperature. Meals were in the pub dining area on the opposite side of the carpark. A light breakfast is included in the room charge and a full English £6.99 which I think needs to be ordered the night before. The food was good with quite an extensive menu, well cooked and generous portions. The landlord (Steve) was friendly and always seemed to have time for a chat. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g736829-d1547953-r511844686-The_Boars_Head_Hotel-Bishops_Castle_Shropshire_England.html#

Shropshire Treat” Reviewed yesterday NEW Excellent pub with good quality modern accommodation. Smart restaurant area where they serve good food coupled with a decent wine list at reasonable prices. It still maintains a traditional pub atmosphere in the bar and serves a selection well kept real ales. All the members of staff we met were polite, friendly and helpful. Would recommend the Boars Head if you are planning to visit the area. Bishops Castle is an attractive somewhat sleepy town with a few other good pubs including the Three Tuns, the oldest licensed brewery in the UK. The town sits right on the English/Welsh border in beautiful scenery on both sides of the border. Plenty of places to visit including Ludlow, Clun, Powys Castle near Welshpool and the Kerry Vale Vineyard near Bishops Castle. This is Welsh Marches territory and while many other places claim (quite rightly) to have stunning scenery there's not much to beat this area, this is up there with the best. Luckily for us it's not that far away. Nevertheless well worth visiting even if you live further afield. Some areas in the UK (the usual suspects so to speak) claim very loudly how wonderful they are. This is an area largely undiscovered by many people outside of the larger West Midland area and Mid Wales. So if you do live further afield and you are looking for somewhere less crowded that avoids shouting about itself to all and sundry, this could be the place for you. Room Tip: All rooms seem to be very similar, I would guess there is no real advantage other than some are bigg... Excellent stay as always. Like the way they are always trying to improve the rooms and service with additional features like DAB Bluetooth speakers and internet TV's. Look forward to returning again very soon. Tips for other travellers Walk the Long Mynd. Visit Clun and walk to the castle. And eat at The Boars Head as it's better than the rest.
